Dornoch
General Information

Inverter

Dornoch is equipped with an inverter that kicks in automatically in the event of a power failure or load shedding.  It powers the lights, TV, DSTV, Wi-Fi, fridge and certain plug points.  Heating appliances and plug points that are not connected to the inverter will not be operational during a power failure or load shedding. Please refrain from using any heating appliances, including the oven, heater, electric blankets, hairdryer and hair irons during these times as they will deplete the inverter within minutes.

Cleaning

Dornoch is serviced daily between 08h30 and 15h30 by our lovely housekeepers, Thandi and Nonny.  The outdoor area is maintained by Thami.

Check-in

Check-in is from 14h00 unless otherwise agreed upon.  

Check-out

Check-out is by 10h00 unless otherwise agreed upon.  

Lockbox

Should you arrive between 14h00 and 15h30, you will be met and welcomed by Thandi or Nonny.  Should you arrive after 15h30, a self-service check-in lockbox is located outside the Dornoch door.  The pin will be shared with you prior to arrival.

Gas Hob

The kitchen hob is a gas appliance that can be ignited manually with a lighter or matches in the event of a power failure or load shedding.

Braai

A gas braai is available.

Amenities

Linen, towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner and toilet paper are provided.

Catering

Dornoch is a self-catering establishment. 

Condiments

Salt, pepper, oil, tea, coffee and sugar are supplied.

House Rules

Occupancy

No more than 1 to 2 guests are permitted to occupy Dornoch per night.  It is the responsibility of the primary guest to ensure their booking is for the correct number of guests.  Dornoch reserves the right to charge the primary guest for any additional guests not included in the booking.

Children

Children are permitted to stay at Dornoch and must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Parking

An undercover carport parking bay is available.  Please refrain from parking outside the property.

Quiet Hours

No noise shall be permitted before 07h00 on Mondays to Fridays and before 08h00 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays; and after 21h00 from Sundays until Thursdays and after 22h00 on Fridays and Saturdays.

Pets

All pets are strictly prohibited.

Smoking

Dornoch is strictly a non-smoking annex.  Please smoke in the garden only and dispose of trash in the bins provided.

Conduct

Dornoch reserves the right to ask any guest who does not comply with the House Rules to depart the establishment immediately, without refund.

Indemnity

The primary guest is required to sign an Indemnity Form on behalf of himself/herself and his/her guest upon arrival.

Persons entering and using the facilities of Gowrie Farm and Dornoch do so at their own risk. Neither the owners of the property, The Black Family Trust, the trustees nor the Gowrie Farm Homeowners Association will be held responsible for any injury, death, loss or damage to property arising from the use of this establishment.

Minimum Stays

A minimum 2-night stay applies for Fridays, Saturdays and high season (public holidays and school holidays).

Gowrie Farm Visitor Rules and Code of Conduct for Short-Term Rentals

Introduction

The House Rules are intended to ensure that the expectations of Short-Term Rental Guests are met in the general day-to-day use of Gowrie Farm (“the Estate”).

​

The House Rules may be amended from time to time by the Board of Directors of the Gowrie Farm Homeowners’ Association (“The Homeowners’ Association”).

Traffic

No person shall drive any vehicle within the Estate at a speed in excess of 40kph.

​

No person shall drive, or permit to be driven, any two, three, or four-wheeled recreational motorcycle/vehicle within the Estate, including but not limited to vehicles popularly known as “quad bikes” and “scramblers”.

 

No person shall drive any vehicle on the Estate unless they are appropriately licensed to drive that vehicle and unless they adhere to all road safety regulations.

 

Only licensed drivers may drive a golf cart on Gowrie Farm Estate.

 

No person shall, on public open spaces or common property within the Estate, park or store any caravan, boat, trailer or truck or other vehicle, except with the consent of and at a place designated in writing by the Homeowners’ Association.

Open Spaces

No person shall anywhere in the public open spaces or common property of the Estate disturb, damage, destroy, pick or remove any plants save with the consent or on the instruction of the Homeowners’ Association.

​

No fires -except for bona fide braai fires or braziers - shall be lit anywhere on the Estate, outside of a dwelling, save with the consent of, or on the instruction of, the Homeowners’ Association.

​

No person shall use any public open space on the Estate in any manner, which may unreasonably interfere with the use and enjoyment thereof by other persons living on the Estate.

​

No person shall discharge any fireworks, air gun or gas gun, cross-bow or long bow or any firearm on the Estate, except in self-defence or where specifically permitted to do so by the Homeowners’ Association.

​

The flying of drones is strictly prohibited.

 

The hitting of golf balls into common areas, golf course areas (unless partaking in a bona fide golf game) and

dams is strictly prohibited.

Pets

As we reside on a working farm, the bringing of pets in any form onto the Estate is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.

Swimming Pool & Tennis Court

The swimming pool and tennis court is STRICTLY OUT OF BOUNDS TO ALL SHORT-TERM RENTAL GUESTS.

 

Homeowners’ personal guests may make use of the facilities if accompanied by the Homeowner.

Fishing

The dams are STRICTLY OUT OF BOUNDS TO ALL SHORT-TERM RENTAL GUESTS.

 

Homeowners’ personal guests may fish if accompanied by the Homeowner.

Noise

All residents should respect the rights of other residents by not allowing or causing excessive noise.

​

Without limiting the generality of the aforegoing, no noise shall be permitted during quiet hours, namely - before 07h00 on Mondays to Fridays and before 08h00 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays; and after 21h00 from Sundays until Thursdays and after 22h00 on Fridays and Saturdays.

​

Without limiting the generality of the aforegoing, Music systems, video players, DVD players, televisions and musical instruments and the like must be maintained at a level so as not to cause a disturbance to other residents.

​

Without limiting the generality of the aforegoing, recreational vehicles as contemplated in clause 2.2 may not be driven or operated on a residential ERF or sectional title unit in a manner which causes a nuisance to any other resident.

Traversing

Traversing over farmland is STRICTLY OUT OF BOUNDS TO ALL SHORT-TERM RENTAL GUESTS.

 

Homeowners’ personal guests may traverse farmland if accompanied by the Homeowner.

 

ONLY the following roads may be used by visiting Cyclists/ Walkers and Joggers. Starting at the Main Security Gate - Gowrie Avenue, Waterford Avenue (which goes up to the Contractors gate) Glengowrie Avenue and Clubhouse Road.

 

ALL OTHER ROADS ARE OUT OF BOUNDS namely; Farm Road, Cottage Avenue, Little Crescent, Smythe Crescent and John King Road.

 

No traversing or walking on the Golf Course.

 

Gowrie Farm Homeowners Association accepts no responsibility or liability whatsoever for any injury/accident or death whilst using these roads/paths.

 

The Farmer will not be responsible for any damage, loss of life or injury caused by illegal and reckless interaction with livestock.

Parties & Visitors

No large gatherings or unauthorized parties are permitted on Gowrie Farm without the express permission of the Owner and the GFHOA.

​

Only registered guests (as per the booking) are permitted to overnight at the booked establishment.

​

Guests wishing to have day visitors must comply with Estate Visitor Rules. Gate Pins will only be provided for Short-Term Rental guests who have permission from the owner to receive DAY visitors.

​

Day visitors visiting short term rentals guests are subject to the ALL of the above rules and fines where applicable.

Golf Course

Short-Term Rental guests may not traverse the Golf Course UNLESS they are playing a bona fide game of golf.

Security

Homeowners and residents shall treat access control and security staff with respect and shall comply with any lawful instructions given by those staff.
